The full details of the Jet Airways ICICI Bank credit cards are going to be a short while away, the formal launch of the credit card happened yesterday, and some details are out as per the reports in the press and on the website of ICICI Bank.

Here is what I can gather from the press so far:

• The cards will be offered in three different variants – Sapphiro, Rubyx and Coral in partnership with American Express and Visa, with JetPrivilege card members allowed to convert daily purchases to flying miles.
• Customers will have the option to apply for a standalone American Express or Visa Credit Card or enjoy the benefits of applying for both cards with a single application.
• The Jet Airways ICICI Bank Credit Cards will be available under an attractive pre-booking offer of up to 5000 JP Miles valid until September 30th.

Sapphiro, Rubyx and Coral were the part of the Gemstone range of credit cards that ICICI Bank introduced last year, and targeted towards mass affluent and HNIs. These are typically offered in a MC/Visa + Amex variant, and the highest end card Sapphiro comes with a massive joining fee of Rs. 25,000 or Rs. 75,000 for life. However, they have significantly lowered the bar for the tie-up with ICICI Bank.

Some first cut details:

• Sapphiro is the highest end card under this co-branded partnership. It will be offered with a choice of American Express or Visa or both.
• 10,000 JPMiles and a Complimentary Jet Airways base fare waived off ticket on joining
• Exclusive online booking privileges, extra baggage allowance and premier check-in
• Lounge access, courtesy American Express and Visa
• Annual fee of Rs. 5,000 + taxes
• Rubyx is the mid-tier card, offered with a choice of American Express or Visa or both
• 5,000 JPMiles and a Complimentary Jet Airways base fare waived off ticket on joining
• Lounge access, courtesy American Express and Visa
• Annual fee of Rs. 2,500 + taxes
• Coral is the common man’s card, offered with a choice of American Express or Visa or both
• 2,500 JPMiles on joining
• Lounge access, courtesy American Express and Visa
• Annual fee of Rs. 1,250 + taxes.

On first look, this looks exactly the same as the HDFC Bank credit cards which launched earlier in the month. Except for the fee on the lowest end card, and the joining offer is different here for all JPmiles coming in on joining and no spend requirements. Only the highest tier card gets some Jet Airways benefits, and in ICICI Bank’s own language, I am Expecting More!

Oh saviour American Express, do not disappoint me please! What are your views on this one?
