Skyteam status match available upto ElitePlus

I have to admit I am not too much of a SkyTeam flyer even though they have a particular flight out of Mumbai (Delta) which suits me the most on work. So, this year I did not flow SkyTeam airlines at all, and I got word from KLM that my FlyingBlue status was going to go back to Ivory if I did not put at least one flight by the end of the year on any participating airline. Even though I have a fair amount of miles in the account, it just looked impossible this year to be crediting any miles to them.

In comes the Aerolineas Argentinas status match offer. Aerolineas joined SkyTeam in August 2012, and is offering a status match, up to their highest tier for elites of other airlines. Like they clearly note, other Skyteam airline elites are not welcome for this status match.

SkyTeam has the following benefits on offer for top-tier elites, they label as Elite Plus:

  • Business-class check-in/priority boarding
  • Lounge Access with +1
  • Priority Baggage
  • Extra Baggage allowance
  • Preferred Seating

SkyTeam Elites get all of this minus the lounge access and priority baggage tagging, on all SkyTeam airlines.

Aerolineas is offering a status match opportunity for all Golds and Platinums with other airlines to earn SkyTeam status. Here is a screenshot of what is on offer:

Take note that they have given an example with some of the airlines they intend to status match, and this is not an exhaustive list as per my interpretation. You need to first sign-up for the ArPlus program before you get it ‘status matched’.

Further, they ask you to send the following details over at elitematch@aerolineas.com.ar to obtain a status match:

    • Subject Elite Status Match

    • Your Aerolineas Plus membership number

    • Full name and e-mail address.

    • Copy of the account summary and the card that identifies you and your actual status on the Frequent Flyer Program

Response is usually prompt and within a few days you will receive confirmation of your status being upgraded.

Now that should solve my problem for one year, and perhaps yours too, so if you’re another airline elite, go status match. And if you need status, check this Turkish Airline Status Match which is still going on.

  1. Hi,
I just tried getting a match with my United 1K status and got rejected saying, “the company you belong to must have one route operated by Aerolineas Argentinas.”
    What should I do? 🙁

  2. Tried it with my skywards gold status and got rejected because one of their rules is that “the company you belong to must have one route operated by Aerolineas Argentinas”

  3. How long did it take you all to get the e-mail? I sent my stuff in evening of December 30 and haven’t heard back.

  4. @jon

yes same for me as well, not updated in the “my plus” account although i have a mail saying i will get the card in a month,

  5. thanks for the info, they matched my ba gold to their platinum.can i maintain status by flying skyteam and crediting to aerolineas or there is a minimum flights requirement like BA

  6. Hey AJ,
I am *A silver on the old bmi.
Would TK match that to TK Miles and Smiles Classic Plus or would aerolineas match me to their Gold ?
It didn’t seem like Aerolineas would match *A silver to their Gold, but I am hopeful of TK matching to their Classic Plus.
    Thanks

    • @Sue Delta should, if their archaic IT systems don’t make an issue. Last year I had to pay for bags on Delta because the agent won’t let me go without it, and they later refunded because I was KLM platinum
