Altitude Lounges: The good yet empty lounges in Mumbai and Delhi

Altitude lounges are the lounges established by American Express in Mumbai CSI airport’s terminal 1 and Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 on the domestic departures side. These lounges are operated for the credit card franchises of American Express in India, such as the ICICI Bank Jet Airways American Express card and the IndusInd Bank Jet Airways American Express Card.

I reviewed the Mumbai lounge and the Delhi lounge last year. Now, both these lounges are excellent in terms of the quality of food and services, much on par with the American Express Lounges operated by Amex for Amex Plat card holders in the two cities.

However, they both don’t get any traffic, in spite of being in business for a couple of years. Yesterday was peak traffic evening in spite of being a weekend because people were travelling after the long Diwali weekend. I happened to be in the Delhi Altitude Lounge, and there was no one there except for me. Enough traffic for them to have actually shut down the air conditioning as well. The Amex Lounge across the alley was full at about 10 people at the same time.

With the Mumbai lounge, I can understand that location is a big issue, because the lounge is located in a secluded corner of the airport across gates A11 which is perhaps exclusively used by Air India and is pretty inaccessible for all the other travellers, especially those with bags.

The Delhi lounge however is very centrally located across gate 27, and does not get any foot falls in spite of that. While inputting my PIN for my IndusInd bank Jet Airways Amex, I managed to fleetingly see the log of passengers using the lounge for the day, and only 4 people including me were on the list. When I later hopped across to the Amex Lounge, they had a flowing list of tonnes of passengers using the lounge that day.

So, if you want a good quality lounge in Mumbai and Delhi, and really peaceful, you should really consider using your IndusInd Bank American Express cards and your ICICI Bank American Express cards to access these lounges. Here is the list of people who can access these lounges:

So if you do have any of these credit cards, hop over to these lounges the next time you are passing through Mumbai or Delhi, and get an almost exclusive lounge to yourself.
