Citi PremierMiles adds 5 new transfer partners (Jet is back!)

Citibank PremierMiles was my favourite credit card till the time they moved from 1PM:1 Airmile for transfer partners. But, for booking airline tickets, you still come out ahead since you could earn 5 airmiles instead of the 4 with other credit cards provided by Citi or other card companies (exclusive of co-branded cards with airlines).

Citibank used to offer a partnership to transfer miles to Jet Airways from PremierMiles, which went away a couple of years back. Since then, the transfer partners for Citibank Premiermiles in India used to be:

On the hotel partners, they had Taj Inner Circle, Hilton HHonors and IHG Rewards Club as partners.

Now, reader Aditya Srinath pointed me to the new list, which added the following transfer partners earlier this week where 2 PremierMiles = 1 Airmile:

  • KLM/AF Flying Blue
  • Jet Airways JetPrivilege
  • Qantas
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Also, they’ve added a new transfer partner on the hotel side, which is Club Carlson where you get 2 PremierMiles = 1 Club Carlson point.

I think this is excellent news and brings more value to the users of the PremierMiles product. Of course, right now there is also the 25000 miles promotion on International spends going on, which gives another opportunity to add miles to your PremierMiles account. I’ll sure look to getting a PremierMiles card back in my pocket in the coming days.

What are your views on this addition? Any transfer partners you’d love to use?

  1. All said and done, I have not been able to justify 20k that citi charges for prestige card. Most of the benefits are notional and don’t carry real value.

I know AJ will vehemently oppose my view :), but unlike many others, I chose to retain my 2L premier miles when they were devalued earlier this year, and I did not convert my PM card to Prestige.. Still trying to figure out though the best usage for my miles..

  2. Hi Chirag,
If you are doing your internship, it might take you a bit longer after your return. Credit cards are generally approved after checking your financials like Credit history, salary or tax returns etc.

  3. Hi Ajay,
Upgraded my free Citi platinum rewards to Premier Miles ( Mastercard World) . Decided to go for a Mastercard to cover their end of goodies. I already have the Prestige Card. What should be my spending strategy between the two ?

  4. Chirag. Do you have any existing relationship with Citibank India ? If you have an existing credit card, you can simply request for an upgrade to premier miles. If you have a NRE/NRO account, you can still get it.

    • Hi Kapil,
      Thanks for responding.
No, I’ve never had any relationship with Citi.
I’m in Colombia for an internship for 1 year.

  5. Jet Privilege HDFC World CC seems to be better card to earn JP Miles if someone is only interested in earning JP miles rather than other Airline miles. Although Citi card gives more premium miles for other airline spends, Jet card seems to be better one for other spends. Amex JP Miles card is also better but no miles are earned when spending on some categories.

  6. Hi Ajay,

Was wondering if you had a view on the Air France Flying Blue program for Skyteam redemptions.

  7. Hi Ajay,

I’m an Indian but currently in Colombia till March next year. Can I get the Citi Premiermiles card ?

  8. @Anil C – Just the question I had – now answered!

However, just yesterday I also opened the PM website list of partners and was also surprised to see Jet there – not that I am too interested in transferring to any airline at present – due to the devaluation.

Thinking of upgrading to the Prestige card to extract more value from my current stash of miles…

  9. @ajay, Are these new partners available as transfer options from the Citi Prestige as well or restricted to Citi PM as of now ?
