JetPrivilege withdraws +1 Lounge Access for Platinums

While JetPrivilege is my go to mileage program in India, I am a bit surprised about how they can’t make up their mind on lounge access. A few years ago, they used to give Lounge Access to a +1 on a Jet Airways flight for Platinum Members. Then it stopped. Then it came back exactly a year ago. And now it is gone again.

Here is an email announcement sent out to Platinum members just a while ago.

So, essentially, your +1 lounge access is going away as of February 1, 2016. And I can’t figure why, because the economy is doing okay, Jet is now under the tutelege of Etihad, and even the Etihad Guest program provides for +1 Lounge Access for their own Platinum members, and some of their other Etihad Guest Partners member airlines are also offering a +1 privilege. I don’t quite like this change.

  1. Actually, Air India may not be that bad. I have started flying Air India very often now. Best in class “seat” space, best in class “leg” room, piping hot meals, better luggage allowance, courteous staff, improving on time performance, I would bet for them to give a run for its money under the new CEO, Mr. Lohani.

    Air India is the airline to watch out for. Could you have imagined this would happen?

  2. I keep raving about JP in absence of any other worthwhile domestic programme. But time and again they keep disappointing. I am okay with the withdrawal of this benefit when some credit/debit card of my partner or guest will get them access to the lounge. But what if the lounge is close to full (and pecking order kicks in) or worse it is exclusive to JP Gold/Platinum and Premiere (like in the non-A1-A10 gates of domestic terminal) where even a priority pass will not work? I’m definitely going to complain as devaluing the most elite tier of a programme is as American as it can get. Will be interesting to know if others are doing the same.

  3. In last decade, Jet’s overall services have been on a downhill. Be it the onboard services, customer care or the JP Programme. Barring the rejig of their JP programme in last 2 years, there has been nothing positive about the airline or the JP Programme.
    Unfortunately, it’s only competitor with sheer network reach is Air India which is even worse.
    Hope Vistara expands rapidly and has a rewarding loyalty programme.

  4. Jet is useless as a FF program, period.

    One can never obtain awards when they insist on human intervention – who are clueless anyway and cannot respond in time to secure seats before they are withdrawn by their partners!

    Also try getting more than 1 or 2 premium seats on their own flights – almost impossible without having to break down the doors of the Jet offices!

    Again, to summarize: Jet status/miles are useless, so do not rely on them.
