Less than a month before Jet Airways flies to Amsterdam

While I was away late last year, Jet Airways made a new announcement, of killing their Brussels mini-hub and moving operations to Amsterdam lock stock and barrel. This is the start of a new strategic partnership with Delta Airlines, and in partnership with KLM as well (Jet and KLM/Air France already cooperate on the Mumbai – Paris route).

The conversation about this switch was going on forever, since 2013. The move is lining up many ducks in a row for Jet Airways, and hopefully will solve a lot of their current issues in monetizing the flights. After all, the occupancy on Delhi-Amsterdam used to be much higher as compared to Delhi – Brussels.

  • As of March 27, 2016, Jet Airways will stop operating their BOM-BRU, DEL-BRU, BRU-EWR and BRU-YYZ flights, and instead start operations on BOM-AMS, DEL-AMS and AMS-YYZ using their A330-300 planes. For services to the USA, they will now depend on Delta to take passengers to 11 destinations in the USA, and KLM will help bring passengers to 30 destinations within Europe.
  • Alongside, Delta, which had stopped servicing the Indian market totally, and KLM with its single frequency to Delhi, will start selling Jet Airways flights as well to bring passengers to Mumbai/Delhi and to other destinations in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Jet Airways Amsterdam schedule will operate the following flights:

Delhi – Amsterdam – Toronto

Mumbai – Amsterdam

The flights will be operated on the A330-300, which has 259 seats in economy and 34 in business class. Here is a review of the service for the flight between Brussels and Mumbai on this aircraft.

Mileage Earning

Since codeshares will be in place, Delta, KLM/AF and Jet Airways loyalists will be able to earn miles in their choice of program depending on how they buy the ticket.

My thoughts

Amsterdam is one of the largest airports in Europe, and one that I touch ever so often in my daily life. While Brussels had the cozy feel about a small airport and easier transit, I am only happy that finally this move fell in place for Jet Airways so that they can have a higher occupancy and a better destination than BRU to fly their planes to. Of course, this also brings Jet closer to the Delta/AF/KLM trifecta. The thing I will miss about this flight, would be the lovely lounge Jet Airways had at Brussels.

  1. brussels was a pain in the back. the belgians could never really handle loads of indians landing from us, canada and india at the same time. amsterdam is much better plus better duty free too. thanks

  2. I gather they will be closing down their EWR station then?

    That’s not good – less capacity then.

    Does DL still operate the EWR-AMS route inherited from NW?
