Just this past month, Hyatt ran a promotion where they were offering up to 40% bonus on Gold Passport points purchased through July,2016. This month Hyatt Gold Passport is back with the same promotion, the only difference being that you get a 30% bonus on points purchased throughout August, 2016.
You can purchase up to a maximum of 55,000 points every calendar year, but in order to receive the full 30% bonus you will need to purchase a minimum of 5,000 points. The price of a Hyatt Gold Passport point under this offer works out to 1.85 cents each.
Also, if you have an elite status with Hyatt and are planning a reward stay then purchasing points may make sense under this promotion, since it would be some times cheaper to do it as compared to booking a revenue stay. Let’s take a look at our favourite Hyatt hotel in India, the Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa. The selling price for a night’s stay in peak season is USD 235/INR 15,750 exclusive of taxes. To purchase a reward night stay here, 15,000 points; you will have to spend USD 288/ INR 19,280; which is 20% higher than the BAR. Now if you opt for cash + points, the wallet effect will be USD 237/INR 15,862; which is just about the same as the published rate, but you have to pay taxes on the cash part, so much less in terms of taxes.
However there are hotels like the Park Hyatt Paris, where a reward redemption under this offer will save you at least USD 165/ INR 11,000 per night. So there is definitely purchase value for some Hyatt hotels.
Bottomline:
While Hyatt is my favourite hotel brand, I am going to give this one a pass. A 40% bonus is perhaps the best bonus I’ve seen Hyatt Gold Passport offer on point purchases and sooner than later I’m hoping it will come back. Having said that if you have a reward stay you are considering it may be worth crunching the numbers as you may be able to get a good value under this purchase promotion.

Also Hyatt is running there “Celebrate With Hyatt” offer across most of the Hyatt properties in India. The bookings need to be done till 15th August. I checked Park Hyatt Goa rates for a sample date September 12 to 13, and the rate was only 6500(excluding taxes), that is one of the lowest i have seen for this property at least.
