Hilton HHonors 100% Purchase Promotion is back

HHonors is back again with its 100% bonus purchase promotion until October 21,2016.

HHonors 100 BonusThe cost to buy a HHonor point is usually 1 US cent and through this promotion the cost of purchase drops down to 0.5 cent each. You need to purchase a minimum of 20,000 points to trigger the bonus. You can buy a maximum of 80,000 HHonors points per annum, that means the highest number of points you can earn through purchase are 160,000 at a cost of 800 USD. In case you buy less than 20,000 points you will only be eligible for an 80% bonus.

HHonors reward redemption begins at 5,000 points and go all the way up to 95,000 points per a points chart. One of Hilton’s most coveted property in the Maldives,  The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is priced at 950 USD per night this December. A night’s redemption here costs 95,000 HHonors points. If we work the math, buying 95,000 HHonors points will cost 475 USD which exactly half of the 950 USD quoted price.

As a cherry on top if you have a Hilton elite status and stay for five nights on points, the fifth night becomes free which further brings down the redemption cost to 76,000 HHonors points per night, hence cost per night is further reduced to 380 USD per night. Now that’s a steal deal !

On the other end of the spectrum, the Hilton Agra, a category 2 hotel is up for redemption for 10,000 Hhonors points. 10,000 HHonors points will cost 50 USD / 3,350 INR, whereas the standard rates at the hotel are quoted all the way from 4,500 INR 6,750 INR. Hence, it seems there is value in this point purchasing points at a 100% bonus.

Hilton Agra ratesEarlier this year when Hilton was out with a similar promotion, I had done a detailed analysis and cross checked  the HHonors redemption requirements against price quotes at 11 hotels worldwide through various categories. The result was that while redemption makes sense at some hotels, buying points randomly without thinking about where you would like use them is not the best thing to do. Out of my sample of 11 hotels only 3 hotels in Thailand and Tokyo stand to gain with the Hhonors redemption under this purchase promotion, which is not great news.

Bottomline:

100% bonus points is by far the best purchase promotion that Hilton offers and with this redemption you are only paying 0.5 cents per point. And although there is value to be had at both ends of the spectrum, keep in mind which Hilton hotels you would like make use of the redemption as at some hotels booking a room at cash price and earning Hhonors points might turn out to be a better option than redeeming points for a reward night.

  1. Hi,
    Great Information

But problem is for beginners like me, we can buy points after 90 days of signing up only.
So for right now, of no good use for me. But at least after 90 days, i will be able to buy them.
