Some last minute Diwali ticketing hacks

Diwali is here upon us, and I am sure a lot of you have already planned your trips to celebrate Diwali with family or friends. In case you were like my brother who kept pushing buying tickets till the last minute where (of course) prices skyrocketed, here are some other ways to look at tickets for you. May or may not work for you, but just a perspective.

For tickets, most sectors should see price shooting up. The party is over in terms of low fares which was more a July-September thing. Everyone is making money hand over fist this month, which is not a bad thing. After all, I’ve been paying INR 15K for one-way tickets to Bangalore on a last minute work trip. And Diwali travel is a predictable event, so I always advice booking in advance. Here are Mumbai Delhi fares on the next 3-5 days. You see Jet Airways is mostly sold out.

Indigo is now running some sort of a flash sale to bring down some prices, perhaps because of a capacity overhang, but most other airlines are going full. However, there is hope if you want to fly on the day of Diwali.

Air India is offering a companion scheme, where two people can fly for the price of one. Unfortunately, this can only be booked on the airport/city offices of the airline, so you need to go over to be able to find out the best prices for your tickets. You pay for one ticket and you only pay taxes for the second one. Even on a high fare, this should average out for two pax.

Air Vistara is offering a sale as well, where they are offering promotional pricing for flying on the day of Diwali. Additionally, some of you might just get upgraded to premium economy.

Indigo is not advertising a sale, but seems to have dropped prices for some sectors for flights tomorrow (28-10) and onwards. So do check them out.

Apart from this, you can always look at the portals for some sort of a cashback they may be offering for you later.

Mileage Tickets

Air India seems to still have a lot of mileage tickets in business class available but economy has gone away largely. Jet Airways does not seem to have tickets but you can try your luck with Etihad Airways in that case to redeem EY miles for Jet tickets. Air Vistara does not seem to have online inventory available for the past few days, so not sure what is happening there.

Bottomline

Still not too late to go home or to your special someone for the festivities. You just need to start booking NOW! Safe travels and arrive at the airport early for your travels, since the next few days will be packed at the airports! All the best, and Happy Diwali already!
