HDFC Bank Diners Club 10X partnerships extended through April 2017

One of the most loved promotions over the past 3 years has been HDFC Bank’s 10x points promotion for the Diners Club Credit Cards they issue in India. The promotion has been going on for a long period of time (2015), and usually at the end of the financial year, it takes them a while to get on board with new partners so they just carry on with the old partners as it happened in 2016. They flip flopped however and then had smaller updates. A complete list of last year’s details is here.

Now, carrying on with the recent tradition, HDFC Bank Diners Club has put a one month extension on the 10X promotion, to last through April 2017. The list of partners does not change.

Just as a recap, you earn the following points on your cards with the various variants on the merchants mentioned above:

  • Rewardz: 3 points/INR 150 + 27 points/INR 150 bonus [Total 30 points/INR 150]. Monetary Value of INR 22.5 [15% cashback]
  • Premium: 4 points/INR 150 + 36 points/INR 150 bonus [Total 40 points/INR 150]. Monetary Value of INR 30 [20% cashback]
  • Black: 5 points/INR 150 + 45 points/INR 150 bonus [Total 50 points/INR 150]. Monetary Value of INR 50 [33% cashback]
  • There is however a cap on the number of points you can earn per statement cycle.
    • Rewardz:  2,500 points
  • Premium: 10,000 points
  • Black: 50,000 points
  • You have to be careful to use the card directly with the merchant. For instance, even with Uber, don’t use the wallet option but the option to directly pay using a credit card. For MakeMyTrip, use the promocode HDFC5X to book.

There is no news about having new transfer partners yet, and I hope I would be pleasantly surprised with more partners being made on the list.

  2. Hi Ajay,

I am getting an offer to upgrade form Premium to Black. Will all my points in premium will transfer to Black in 1:0.75 Ratio. I have 100k+ points and dont intent to convert it to Miles.

    Regards,

    Nitesh Agrawal

  3. The Mmt and Goibibo 10x offer seems expired . Both are refusing to entertain Diners black for 10x rewards . Say the offer is expired

    • @manan you might be right about MMT. I am getting a code expired on MMT. But GoIbibo you do not need a code. What error are you getting?

  4. How much time it might take for my upgrade request from diners premium with 2l limit to diners black?

I just requested 2 days back to upgrade my cc with my RM (I’m under the preferred program) through mail. No response yet.
I’ve been with the bank since the last 10 years, and used various credit cards and loans from them. I never upgraded my limit even when the offered. My cibil score is above 840, and always maintain a balance of 5L in my savings account.

I’m looking to make some large purchases on flipkart if I get the card by the end of this month. Do you think it’s possible?
I’ve only come across this blog a couple days ago and immediately requested for upgrade after seeing the benefits.

      • I suggest that you straight away request for “Black” variant. While I am not sure about the income details etc, your 10-year relation and savings balance etc may help if you are lucky. And better hurry up. You’ve just got 10 days (in case the promotion is not extended). There have been reports of people getting an upgraded card in 8-15 days. You never know – you might just be lucky.

I received an upgrade (for Jet Diners) in about 10 days. You may still get

  5. So I know incase of airline miles cards – hdfc or any other bank buys a chunk of miles from airline at a great discount & then hands it to card holders for bonuses & spends.
But I wanted to understand who bears the cost of cashback (say INR 50 in case of diners) in this case. I think it is hdfc+diners+retailer? Anybody? And how sustainable is it providing 33% discount as in this case?

  6. They did away with the 10x rewards on SmartPay though – that was a killer for me as I had subscribed to monthly Insurance SIPs (read SIP on ULIPs) on SmartPay and was earning 10x on them.
