New Lounge coming up at Mumbai Airport Terminal 1

The Mumbai Airport Terminal 1 has been in a flux for a while now. They have seen GoAir move to Terminal 1B from 1A. With the move of Air India to Terminal 2 followed by the move of Jet Airways as well, all the full-service airlines had gone away from Terminal 1. So there was no case for a good  Mumbai Airport Lounge at this terminal.

Hence, the Jet Airways lounge in 1 reverted to being a generic Loyalty Lounge accessible via Priority Pass and then there is the Good Times Bar which is only accessible for some Visa and Amex Card holders. However, the only lounge available in Terminal 1C, the aerobridge section, the only lounge that existed, Carnation Lounge, shut down earlier this year.

But the good news is, things are changing fast. On a recent trip where I arrived at Terminal 1C, I noticed that a new board is on the door, which gave me a lot of hope.

You know what that means? Whenever this lounge opens, it would be the same world standard as the GVK Lounge in Terminal 2, since Travel Club at Terminal 2 has the same F&B offerings as GVK Lounge on the Domestic Section.

I’m trying to find out more about the opening date of the lounge right now, but it looks like Terminal 1 will get a good looking and great food lounge again. But I don’t have hopes of an American Express Lounge coming back here again, given GVK’s philosophy of not allowing anyone else but themselves to operate lounges in the Mumbai Airport.

It also indicates to me that the Terminal 1 won’t be going anywhere in the coming days, but rather be right here.

What do you think will we see inside the new TFS Travel Club Lounge opening at Mumbai Airport Terminal 1? And when do you think will this new lounge open up?
