The suspense about who moves to Delhi Terminal 2 is over. As a recap, the airport operator ordered all the carriers to move 30% of their flight operations to Delhi Terminal 2 by October 2017. Then, Indigo responded in the negative and SpiceJet said if everyone moves they will move as well. GoAir Delhi originating flights have moved to Terminal 2 already.

IndiGo did not want to give up without a fight. They took DIAL to court, where a single-judge bench ruled on December 20, 2017, that Delhi Airport had the rights to move them around since this was a safety issue. IndiGo further went ahead and appealed that decision rather than respect it in the Delhi High Court again.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court upheld their single judge order which ratified the Delhi Airport’s decision to partly shift IndiGo and SpiceJet from Terminal 1 to 2. These airlines have now been asked to approach the Delhi International Airport Limited within a week to set the date of their move. If they don’t go to DIAL, then DIAL can send them a date ex-parte.

As a reminder, Delhi Airport asked GoAir, IndiGo and SpiceJet to move flights to/from Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru to Terminal 2. Other routes would operate from Terminal 1 as usual.

While GoAir shifted completely to Terminal 2 given their small size, SpiceJet and IndiGo were given time till January 4, 2018. Then due to the legal proceedings, nothing moved forward. Their new date was February 15, 2018, which will most likely move again.

I’m waiting for all of this to end so that Delhi can finally start getting its new futuristic airport in place!
