My horrible experience transferring miles from HDFC Bank Diners Club

HDFC Bank Diners Club has some great promotions for travel and dining, which makes it a great card to hold in your wallet if you want to earn miles and points in India.

However, as I found out over the last quarter of 2015, they have an incredibly bureaucratic and clueless team to deal with the transfer, and the process is manual and very irritating. It took me over 2 months to get my points transferred from HDFC Bank’s point currency to the mileage programs I wanted them transferred in.

Do read through this before you decide to pick up these cards, and perhaps we can compare notes in the Comments section?

Huff-puff, and I reach AAdvantage EXP

In July, I wrote a post about how I was having trouble moving forward with my quest for AAdvantage status. I had done the required number of points, but somehow AA did not take a view on it. It turns out, AAdvantage is strictly implementing a particular clause this year, which is a pre-qualification for any elite qualification with American Airlines. They are also implementing a no soft-landing policy this year, which led me to go down to base member tier in the first place. Usually, I’m able to comply with this 4 legs requirement early in the year itself, however, this year, business travel and personal travel was slow during the beginning of the year.It came later in the…

So how long does it take to upgrade an AAdvantage account again?

That is the question I am looking for an answer for, seems I can’t find it. See, I started with American Airlines AAdvantage program a few years back, and I’ve been an Executive Platinum for two years in a row. Last year, hardly travelled with them, and also this was the year they killed their policy for a soft landing, so I went straight to Member level as of March 1, 2014. Sigh, as much as I hate to let it go, I love my AAdvantage miles too much and also the program. I think it is one of the best out there in terms of mileage value. So i decided to see if I could crawl back from being…

Targeted AA promotions offering instant status till August 2013

While I am an Executive Platinum and so AA is not sending me out the invitation to Concierge Key, not yet at least, they seemed to have fired out a lot of emails offering targeted status to various American Airlines flyers. It seems AA flyers with no status have received a promotion to sign up for instant Gold status, and they get complimentary status till August 31, 2013 + 10 500-mile upgrades (just for registering!!). If they earn 6000 miles or points during April 29 and August 31, 2013, they get to keep the status till February 28, 2015. The flying needs to be on AA, BA, IB, QF and JA.
