Jet Airways sale: 7,00,000 domestic seats on sale till August 9, 2013

Yesterday, early morning, I heard that Jet Airways fares were at least 15% lower than the usual, and I wanted to kick myself in the backside for booking some tickets a few days earlier for the exact date on which the travel was to start. I couldn’t cancel those tickets and rebook without a penalty, and that wasn’t a pretty sight. Anyhow, rant over, turns out later in the day, Jet Airways was loading those fares for a sale they have been holding since yesterday (3 August, 2013) to 9 August, 2013. For this duration, Jet Airways is offering 7,00,000 seats on sale, with at least a 7 day advance purchase, as per the following slabs: Note that this is…

Jet–Etihad deal gets back on course

Jet Airways might as well become the the first of the Indian carriers to get a foreign equity investment, with the Jet – Etihad deal moving in the forward direction today after being stalled for a while. For a quick recap, Jet Airways agreed to sell 24% stake in the airline, majority stake in loyalty program JetPrivilege and its London slots to Etihad for a price of roughly $600 million. This deal, obviously, was subject to regulatory scrutiny and approvals. However, it turns out that there were way too many clauses where Etihad was going to take over control, including the move to migrate revenue management to Abu Dhabi. Also, Etihad was getting veto powers, so they had a say…

Jet Airways: convert hotel points to JP Miles with 20% bonus

Apart from offering a bonus on conversion of your credit card reward points to Jet Airways JP Miles, there is also another recently launched promotion from 9W, where you could convert your hotel points from 9 different hotel chains to JP Miles. As per the promotion, which is valid between 20 July 2013 and 31 August 2013, if you converted your hotel points into 9W miles as per the following ratio, you’d stand to gain an extra 20% bonus from Jet Airways. However, my personal view is that this is not exactly a great promotion. Hey, for 50,000 Club Carlson points, I could be getting a good one night stay at a hotel in Europe in stead of 5000 JPMiles…

Bonus miles on the ICICI Bank Jet Airways Visa credit cards for sign-up and use

ICICI Bank and Jet Airways, when they launched their co-branded cards last year, had a huge focus on pushing the American Express versions, and they were (still are), offering upto 9 JP Miles for regular spend. This is a promotional offer limited till October 2013. ICICI Bank, a couple of days back, however, launched a new promotion, where there is a higher sign-on bonus for the Visa version of their credit cards, in case you sign up till October 31, 2013. Here is how it works: Sapphiro (highest): 15,000 JP Miles for sign-on instead of 10,000 JP Miles. Also, 8 JP Miles/INR 100 spend till October 2013, and a free economy ticket code on Jet Airways domestic flights. Rubyx (medium):…

It is a good time to book your festive travel now

Airfares have been hitting the roof, or that is what I have been hearing for a while now. And it has to be the case, with inflation and oil prices both heading upwards, and the instance of Kingfisher going under, that airlines realised they can’t keep on dishing out discounting tickets and hope to even break even, forget making profits. However, sales come out from time to time, and this year we saw SpiceJet, Indigo, Air India and Jet Airways all throwing their hat in the ring every time one of them dropped prices. For my personal travel, as long as I have visibility on various travels, I prefer to book it far out during one of these sales of…

Jet Airways and HDFC Bank launch a co-branded debit card

I almost thought I was nuts to have imagined that HDFC Bank and Jet Airways announced last year that they would introduce co-branded Debit Cards as a part of their alliance. There was no word from either party for a whole year after launching a credit card, and now it comes. On the 1st of July, HDFC Bank and Jet Airways finally launched a JetPrivilege HDFC Bank World Debit Card. Like I mentioned earlier, debit cards are a bigger market in India than credit cards, and a lot of people do not like to borrow to spend. And HDFC Bank would be the first debit card in the Indian market to offer a debit card which earns miles on swiping…

Your Jet Privilege conversion promo questions answered

Last week, I posted about Jet Airways offering a 20% bonus on converting your credit card points to Jet Privilege miles. I got a few queries about the transfer process and/or output, and I thought I’d answer them here in public interest: I got a question on Twitter, asking me if the 20% JP Miles bonus could be stacked with the 10% discount on web redemptions at Amex Membership Rewards. The answer to that, is No. The Amex Membership Rewards web redemption discount is not applicable on all categories, and Airline miles is one of them. So, you’d just transfer the applicable points currency from your credit card account and Jet Airways would credit the appropriate number of miles to…

Jet Airways offering 3x miles to returning JP members

Jet Airways has sent out emails to select members offering them 3x miles on their flight between June 18, 2013 to September 17, 2013. It is a sort of a welcome back offer, and offered only to members who have been sent out the emailers. The Triple miles offer is on the base miles flown, and excludes any tier bonuses or class of service bonuses that you may be eligible for. What I don’t need to tell you is that this is valid for Jet Airways and JetKonnect flights only, and you need to have your JP number put on while check-in. However, what I do need to say is that interestingly, this is valid for the first flight ‘credited’…

Jet Airways gets a new CEO: Gary Kenneth Toomey

Jet Airways, which is in the midst of setting up a strategic alliance with Etihad Airways at the moment, has gone ahead and appointed Gary Kenneth Toomey as their new CEO. Just last week, their CEO for five years, Nikos Kardassis had resigned and it was being reported for a while that Gary was the frontrunner for this position for a while. Gary, who has been a CEO at Air New Zealand, and before that the deputy CEO & CFO at Qantas, has a track record in domestic and international airline management, and I hope he’ll be able to work on the integration of Etihad and Jet Airways well, and lead its international expansion going forward. For me as a…

Philippines refuses Jet Airways, Myanmar says hello to India

Jet Airways, which has been wanting to launch a flight to Manila for the longest time, has recently been refused permission to fly to the airport by the Civil Aeronautics Board of Philippines, as a result of growing congestion at the airport. According to the Philippines CAB official, 9W had applied for landing slots between 07h00 and 19h00, the busiest time of the day for the airport and the possibility of using other airports in the country was ruled out as most were not night rated and are limited to day time operations. On the other hand, Myanmar has granted India fifth freedom rights, which means that Indian airlines will now be able to operate revenue flights between India and…
