Going RTW: Flight UA343 (LGA-DEN), United Airlines, First Class

Introduction & Trip Index <AC Maple Leaf Lounge, LGA There were only two reasons I was booked to fly United. First, American Airlines’ prices were pretty high when I was trying to book tickets with them between NYC to Colorado Springs, and I’d never flown a turbo prop plane, so I thought I might as well hitch the 40 minute ride flight between Denver & Colorado Springs and get a Dash 8-400 on my list of planes flown. The LGA-DEN segment was upgraded to First ahead of the flight due to my United status. After going past TSA,  headed straight to the gate where the plane was already boarding. This was going to be a Boeing 757-200 flight, with the…

Going Dutch: Introduction

Introduction Check-in: Clipper Lounge, Terminal 2, Mumbai Airborne: Flight 9W228 (BOM-BRU), Jet Airways, Premiere (A332) Hotel Manhattan, Rotterdam Hotel Sheraton Brussels Airport, Brussels Check-in: Jet Airways Lounge, Brussels Airborne: Flight 9W227 (BRU-BOM), Jet Airways, Premiere (A333) Earlier this month I needed to plan a trip to The Netherlands, not for fun but for work. The direct route from Mumbai (BOM) to Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) has only one flight, which is actually a SkyTeam flight operated by Delta on the route Mumbai – Amsterdam – Atlanta, using their Fifth Freedom rights. However, having travelled on that flight once, I decided I did not like it much. What could you expect of Delta afterall? They took 1.5 hours just to serve me…

So I had another good flight with Jet Airways Premiere

I must admit I have not been flying Jet Airways on my domestic routings of late. I have heaps of trip reports to write, but essentially, when I went by for my little holiday to the Park Hyatt Goa in June, I had a no air-conditioner flight on Goa to Mumbai. I decided I when I got back to be treading away from them for a while, but I already had reservations with them for this November trip so I thought I’d brave it out this one time then. Jet Airways, on the other hand, seemed to have other plans for me. I was travelling my regular BOM-DEL segment, something I do a zillion times. I’d asked for an upgrade…

Is Jet Airways holding on to upgrades too tight?

Like you all know from my little airline dinner post I was over to the Middle-East this past week. While a full trip report will come up soon, this one got me asking why Jet Airways is holding on too tight to their premium cabin seats. Like I do when I travel and I need an upgrade with Jet Airways, I send them an email with the details of the travel team and voucher details. In this case, I wrote to them with the details and I was travelling KWI-BOM. The response from Jet Airways, amongst other things, included the following line: I was looking at the tickets the night before, and Premiere tickets were available on the route, right…

Airborne: Flight 9W336 (DEL-BOM), Jet Airways, Premiere Class

Introduction & Trip Index Jet Airways 336 Delhi(DEL) – Mumbai(BOM) Sunday, July 24 2011 Depart: 8:00AM Arrive: 10:00AM Duration: 2hr00min Distance flown: 708 miles Aircraft: Boeing 737-800 Seat: 2A (Premiere) Meal Service: Breakfast The early Sunday morning had clearly made me a little jumpy 😉 and I’d managed to lose my boarding pass without realising. Thank goodness someone found it for me while I was retracing my steps, because otherwise there was no way I’d have made it to the flight without going through security check again. That’d had left a spoilt taste in the mouth I guess. Lucky, it did not happen. I came around to my gate to find VT-JNV parked and ready to go in a short…

Check-in: Delhi Airport Terminal 3 on the way to Mumbai on Jet Airways & Lounging at the Plaza Premium Lounge

Introduction & Trip Index After my hectic work trip got over, I had decided to spend the Saturday with my parents before returning to Mumbai (Bombay) on Sunday morning. Ideally, I’d have loved to spend the Sunday home also, but I was going to be gone for a long time on the upcoming weekend, and hence I was planning to pack up some gear on that particular Sunday and catch up with friends. With that thinking in mind, I was booked on a Sunday morning 8 AM flight to BOM. Yeah, a Sunday morning flight, when I’d ideally liked to have crashed at home. But Sunday flights can be fun, and this was proven again after a long while! However,…

Jet Airways Citibank Credit Cards devalue upgrade benefits with effect from September 2011

The Jet Airways Citibank co-branded Platinum Card was one of the more popular and advantageous airline credit cards in India. It looks like it had enough of the high table so it decided to jump off right away. I first heard of the devaluation on this flyertalk thread. I have been holding this card for quite a few years, and was in fact the only credit card I used for a very long time and pay a fee for. When I read this new scheme of things, I could not believe my eyes, and since I am travelling I haven’t received my letter from Citi yet. I checked up on Citibank’s India website, and it confirmed the horror story to…

Airborne: Flight 9W 309 (BOM-DEL), Jet Airways, Premiere Class

Introduction & Trip Index Jet Airways 309 Mumbai(BOM) – Delhi(DEL) Wednesday, July 20 2011 Depart: 7:05PM Arrive: 9:05PM Duration: 2hr00min Distance flown: 708 miles Aircraft: Boeing 737-800 Seat: 10A (Economy), 1C (Premiere) Meal Service: Dinner After the tormenting time earlier, I was on the flight boarding queue finally. And yes, gently reminded by 9W that there will be no upgrade. I was fine with the fact and content with what I was getting. Until I realised there was a guy ahead of me was signing off an upgrade voucher at the gate. Now, no hard feelings were coming through, but when my turn came to scan the Boarding Pass, I was just let through without another mention of that stupid…
