Jet Airways brings fine dining to Hong Kong flights

Jet Airways seems to be doing pretty good loads on the BOM-HKG-BOM segments. I’ve flown it a couple of times in the front and the back and it always has been a full plane to the best of my knowledge. It seems the demand for the premium cabins though never got satiated and hence 9W is replacing the A330-200 it flies on this segment to a B777-300ER with effect from August 21. The B777 allows them to put more seats in the Premiere cabin (the Business class) and also introduce their very famous First Class on this route. 9w will be the only airline for the time being to offer first class on this route.

The latest addition to this fine service repertoire is the new ‘Epicurean series’ dining which Jet introduced in the premium cabins on 1st August. The way it is worded on the Jet website here, they are indicating this is the inauguration of this product offering, and perhaps will be later rolled out on the other routes also. The concept is pretty simple and maybe not very  novel, where Jet will tie up with various hotels to cater to their flights on various routes. So, instead of a flight catering service preparing your meals (maybe conceived by a Michelin star chef, but executed by a flight-catering kitchen), the food will be brought over from the hotel itself.

On the inaugural menu in August on the HKG-BOM route, flight 9w75 will offer fine dining from Man Ho, the signature Chinese restaurant brand of Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott. The menu is aptly called Oriental Flavours, and will offer Canton and Sichuan cuisine, apart from the Indian cuisine options on the Menu. From the looks of it, it looks pretty delicious. I picked up some pictures from their Facebook page to show you here:

Fine Dining in the Sky!

The airline organised a sampling, where Business Traveller (the magazine) landed up, and reported that the menu was Noteworthy. To make things even better, there is a promotion with the Marriott for Jet Privilege members, whereby the Marriott SkyCity would give a free upgrade on booking with a certain booking code ‘J3A’. While I might not go for this bait, because my favourite Marriott property is in the centre of HKG and not by the airside, I am sure looking forward to my next HKG trip to try out this worthy menu.

Bon Appetit!
