SpiceJet offering discounts on online bookings

SpiceJet seems to be making a habit of offering discounts on their website SpiceJet.com. In March 2012, they were offering deal-of-the-day discounts on their website, publishing a new QR code on the site everyday for a different discount code. They further tried another way of discounting by asking for your handphone number in April 2012.

However, the deal-a-day code is back now for an undisclosed time period on the SpiceJet website again. On 10th July 2012 they launched the Monsoon Hungama promotion. Discounts offered are per person/per way basis, so you get a fixed amount off on every sector you are booking for each passenger. What’s more, the discount is valid on the SpiceJet international network as well, including the recently launched Dubai service from Delhi and Mumbai.

I tried a sample booking here to check how things worked, and turned out you could get about 10% off on the example I was looking out for.

Step 1: Pick up the discount code from the website using your smartphone camera and QR Code reader. You can easily download a free QR code reader if you don’t have one. For instance, the discount code on July 10 showed below was SGQRC400.

Step 2: Search for the route and proceed to selecting your flights. If you are booking a return fare, this promo will add to the discounts you already get while booking a return trip. You see this sample ticket of BOM-BLR-BOM already has a Rs. 333 discount for booking a return trip in the top-left corner. The return trip is pricing at Rs. 6323.

Step 3: Fill up your passenger details to come to the payment page. Here, enter the promo code you picked up earlier. You see, my ticket costing Rs. 6,323 is now priced at Rs. 5,483 (a discount of Rs. 840 = Rs. 420 one way). The same discount is possible on a BOM-DEL or any ticket on SpiceJet. You can now go ahead and make the payment to issue your ticket

Voila, you saved some travel cash. Do remember, the promo codes change daily and may offer a different discount everyday. So it could be Rs. 420 one day and Rs. 600 on another. You may decide to play the waiting game for a better discount, but that is entirely your will. The discount code expires every day midnight IST. Do take note that you can only book with this promocode only on www.spicejet.com.
