Reminder: 1 week for bonus miles with Jet Airways Amex

A quick reminder for those of you who are planning to take up the new co-branded card Jet Airways launched with American Express 2 weeks back. American Express and Jet Airways are offering the new shiny plastic for a fee of Rs. 10,000 per annum plus taxes, and you get a welcome bonus of 20,000 JP Miles. In case you make an application before December 25 this year, you also get another 10,000 JP Miles as well.

American Express has clarified that Platinum JP members and winners of the “Wheel of Fortune” contest will get the card free of cost, however, in case they choose not to pay a fee (i.e., get it complimentary), they will not receive the welcome gifts from the bank.

Here is a round-up of all the benefits that 9W-Amex is offering at the moment on this card:

  • Welcome Gift of 20,000 Bonus JPMiles (on payment of 1st year fees) + one-way base fare waived off free ticket for domestic travel on Jet Airways within India + 25% Premiere Companion Discount voucher for one way or return domestic travel on Jet Airways within India

  • 6 JPMiles per Rs. 100 spent on all spends, except spend on jetairways.com/jetkonnect.com which gets 12 JPMiles per Rs. 100 spent

  • At the time of Annual Renewal on payment of the renewal fees, 5000 Bonus JPMiles & one Base Fare waived Free ticket for domestic travel on Jet Airways within India

  • 5% discount on Base Fare for purchase of domestic and international revenue tickets on jetairways.com/ jetkonnect.com

  • 10 kg excess baggage while travelling within India on Jet Airways flights

  • Complimentary access to the American Express Platinum Lounge at Domestic Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and Domestic Terminal 1C at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai.

  • Complimentary $99 Priority Pass

  • Visa Assistance Services (at cost + nominal markup)

  • Platinum Concierge services from Amex

This card is an expensive proposition as compared to the other cards offered by HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. A lot of people have had trouble getting the ICICI Bank Jet Privilege cards, I still don’t have mine. In a limited time offer ending November 30, they were promising a similar sign-on bonus of 50% of the welcome gift offer.

The value of JPMiles, at 33 paise per JP Mile, in itself should make it an attractive proposition for some. 30K JPMiles = one return trip BOM-DEL in business, or one way economy ticket to London/Brussels (fuel surcharge extra). And the great American Express service makes it all the more a winner in the wallet. Also, as compared to the other 2 cards from HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, this one offers a 5% saving on international tickets as well, which is a differentiator for the serious jetsetter.

However, this one is only for the people who live in cities where Amex operates, which are Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai and the neighborhoods.

  1. Applied for this card last week. What I really liked was they didn’t need income documents at all. The person who collected my form said it may take upto 6 weeks to receive the card post verification call. Hoping to get it before NYE.

  2. Waiting for the New AMEX Card.Though I could have got it free being Platinum at 9W,I opted to pay to get the 30 k miles and free base fare ticket.Amex is also taking longer than usual to send me the new card.
Got the ICICI cards long back but with a new JP No .Am trying my best to get ICICI to give me fresh cards with my original no ,but no luck so far.

  3. What’s funny is that Amex service has gone down since they launched this card. Applied for mine 3 weeks back and its stuck. Amex claims that they are overwhelmed with the response as they got 500 applications from delhi. secondly got bombarded with calls. Which Amex claims is from the jet sales guys. Irrespective, their service does not hold the same vaule as it did earlier.
