IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty program of Intercontinental Hotels Group is offering an up to 100% bonus on points purchased until July 18,2016. Earlier in June this year, IHG ran a 4 days flash sale offering a 100% bonus on purchase. Though this one is slightly different and it appears that the percentage of bonus points differ for members. Many people have received a 50% and an 80% purchase bonus offer in this mystery box point-purchase promotion.
Usually, IHG Reward Club Points cost USD 0.0135 (INR 0.92) per point when you are buying them at the lower end, however under this purchase promotion the price per point will come down by 50% to USD 0.00575 (INR 0.4) (at the higher end). Points can be purchased in multiples of 1,000 and you can buy a minimum of 1,000 points and a maximum of 60,000 (1,20,000 with bonus). Keep in mind that it will take 2 to 4 days for the points to be credited in the account.
Why this promotion makes sense?
Like we have shared before, if you are into PointBreak stays where you get promotional stays at 5,000 points per night, this brings you a per night stay at USD 40 (INR 2,600), with a 1,000 points to spare. If you are into luxury hotels, this makes sense, because you get to stay at a luxury resort far below published rates. For instance, in India, the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram, which retails for INR 26,000 a night. A room at this resort could be yours for 30,000 points which comes in this promotion at INR 12,500 (15,000 points + 15,000 bonus points).
Also, if like us, you like to go to places far and beyond, such as Bora Bora, you can get a 700$ + taxes (at the minimum!) room for only 345$, if you hit the 100% bonus.
It is a great idea to make use of this purchase if you have specific IHG properties in mind. Also given the fact that bonus percentages may differ for different members, you may want to check your offer before validating your account to make the purchase.
So what are your plans about purchasing points under this promotion?
