Yesterday, I first wrote about the upcoming ban on electronics to be brought on board for people flying into the US of A. The ban was first implemented by Royal Jordanian, however that message is deleted now on their feed. It is reproduced in full for you here. The ban has also been confirmed by Saudi Arabian agencies.

While the whole story was clouded then, it seems this is being done on specific intelligence inputs, and is not a 96-hour ban as first written by me, but a ban which will continue for the time being once implemented. The Associate Press reports the names of the cities from where non-stop flights to the USA will be affected by this ban:

• Cairo in Egypt
• Amman in Jordan
• Kuwait City in Kuwait
• Casablanca in Morocco
• Doha in Qatar
• Riyadh and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia
• Istanbul in Turkey
• Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates

As per the same report:

A second U.S. official said the ban will affect nine airlines in total, and the Transportation Security Administration will inform the affected airlines at 3 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday.

It remains to be seen about how this ban will work out in effect. When a computer is being carried in hand, it gets checked off specifically on an airport scanner. Also, who is picking the tab on the guarantee to customers that their electronics will not be stolen when checked in.

As I said before, this is a developing news, and an unfortunate one at that. So, I’ll keep my ears to the ground and hoping for more updates.
