Hyatt Regency Chandigarh : First Impressions in 10 Pictures

We spent the last few days in the beautiful city of Chandigarh and stayed there at the Hyatt Regency Chandigarh. The Hyatt Regency Chandigarh is Hyatt’s newest addition in India that opened its doors last year. The hotel has 211 rooms including 25 suites which is the largest number of suites any 5-star hotel in Chandigarh has.

Right from the time I walked into the hotel lobby the one thing that stood out all through the stay was the vibrant colors used in the hotel decor.

The lobby is magnificent with a spiral staircase and the art work all through the hotel is inspired by local Punjab theme, some of it made by local craftsmen.

We were booked in a standard room where we noticed that the evacuation plan was missing. After we notified this to the Hyatt management we were moved into another standard room on the same floor the next day.

Half the rooms in the hotel face the pool while the other half open towards a shopping mall. We had a room with a pool view.

Our room was large and spacious with the bath covering almost one-third of the total area. We spent a lot of our time indoors and at no point of time Ajay and I found ourselves running into each other.

We also got the chance to try the butter chicken on an in room dining order. It tasted fantastic.

The breakfast spread was huge and there was a variety of regional Indian breakfast dishes for us to choose from. Of course when you are in the milk capital of India you can’t say no to dairy. The lassi and the piping hot paneer pakoras are a must try for breakfast.

The lounge is cozy and smells new like the rest of the hotel. The evening spread is a good mix of hot and cold canapés with a reasonable choice of alcoholic drinks, including beers, spirits and mojitos.

The hotel has a bar that is open in the evenings. I could count over thirty Whiskey labels at the bar. There is also an Italian restaurant that is run by a chef Hyatt brought in all the way from Sicily to Chandigarh. If you like your chinese food to be chinese, there is also a Chinese chef who used to work at China House, Grand Hyatt Mumbai before he came here.

Overall this is a great choice of hotel if you want to spend a few days in the city or want to halt a night before heading out to the hills in Himachal.

Priced at a standard rate of about INR 9000/ USD 140 a night I was as a bit skeptic on the price point before we checked in. However after looking at the room size, hotel facilities, staff hospitality and the location ; right next to a shopping mall , I’m convinced it’s a good value for money for all those looking at a 5-star option in the city.

I will share a detailed review of our stay experience once we finish sharing our trip report on An English Summer vacation we enjoyed in London and Ireland.

In the meanwhile if you have stayed at this hotel, I’d live to hear about your stay experience at the hotel.
