Registration is now open for Starwood Preferred Guest’s first promotion in 2018. Over the weekend I had written about a few details of the new SPG promotion. The promotion is called, SPG Great Weeks, Grand Weekends and will let members earn bonus Starpoints for stays.
This promotion is valid for all stays between January 16 and April 15, 2018, and registration is required by March 31, 2018. It should take less than a minute to register and even if you do not have stay plans at SPG hotels next year you must register for the offer.
Here is what SPG Great Weeks, Grand Weekends offers:
- Members earn double base points beginning their second stay during the offer period
- Earn additional 500 bonus points on weekend night stays, where weekend night around the world will be Friday or Saturday night and in the Middle East a Thursday or Friday night.
Bonus points will be posted within 2-4 weeks. Something to keep in mind is that while all brands are participating in this promotion, not all hotels are participating. You can view the list of participating hotels here and below is the list of hotels participating in India.

I find promotions like these quite lame where I have to remember or refer to a list of hotels before booking. To look at the earning ratio during this offer, we value 1 Starpoint at approximately 2.1 US cents / INR 1.4 and under this promotion, you’ll earn 2 Starpoints or get a value of 4.2 US cents/ INR 2.8 on weekday stays. On top of this, there are extra 500 points on weekend stays which will get you a value of USD 11/ INR 700 for no extra effort. So, while I wouldn’t switch my stays to a Starwood hotel just for this promotion, it’s better to earn something extra than nothing at all.
Bottomline:
I’d say that register for this promotion and forget about it. You don’t have to make any stay decisions based on the offer, however, if unexpected stays come through next year you won’t miss the bonus points.
