Like you know, recently, HDFC Bank Diners Club transfer partner list grew to add:
- British Airways Executive Club
- Air Vistara Club Vistara
- Trident Privilege
This development added to the albeit small arsenal of Jet Airways and Singapore Airlines which were the remaining transfer partners of the program after they pulled the plug on Marriott, American Airlines, Hyatt and many others.
Once the new partnerships came on board, I wanted to try out how it worked in reality. So, with a bit of hit and trial, I was able to figure this out. Here is how it worked.
Step 1: I logged into the net banking portal of HDFC Bank and headed to the Credit Cards section. There, I headed to the redeem rewards menu option on the sidebar, which takes me to an external portal.
Step 2: Don’t worry, I was already signed in here, so I did not have to sign in again. The first few times I tried to transfer airmiles without a frequent flier registration, but I learned the hard way that I had to first register the program before going forward. So, I first moved to the FF registration and finished the straightforward process. Don’t bother about the expiry date since that is a field that would be eventually disregarded. I think I filled up some random date one year out.
Step 3: Once I was able to go through these hoops, I could go ahead and place an order to transfer points to BA Executive Club. I started with the bare minimum of 100 points.
Step 4: I was asked for a confirmation to process the transfer. The T&C stated that I should receive the airmiles within seven working days.
Step 5: I received an order number for the redemptions.
All of this was done on January 29, 2018. However, I did not get the Avios credited within seven days as promised. It took about a fortnight before the transferred points were credited to the BA account.
The good news is, it eventually worked. Although not on time. These are the steps you need to follow to be able to transfer your HDFC points to Avios, or for that matter Vistara/Trident/JetPrivilege. No more the paper pushing like in the older days.
Have you used the transfer options for HDFC Bank Diners Club credit cards? How did it work out for you?
