5 reasons to choose Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty for your next vacation

We just got back from Kochi, where we were previewing the Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty. It’s is the newest hotel in the Hyatt stable in India, and their first one in Kerala, God’s own Country. When the hotel opens their doors to guests next weekend, here is why you should plan your vacation at this beautiful resort.

Stunning Sunsets

The view of the waterfront strikes you the minute you walk into the hotel. It is imposing and awesome. If you have a room with a view, set yourself up there, or grab a coffee in the lobby lounge, for the sunset looks marvellous from here. Bonus feature, each room has the blinds open up automatically as you walk into your room so that you will not miss the views. It is beautiful! Rinse, repeat.

The Private Island feel

The Grand Hyatt Kochi is located on the Bolgatty island, with a Dutch palace converted into a hotel as their neighbour. However, once inside, you will realise almost the entire island is yours. Spacious rooms, many pools, a tennis court, a yoga studio, a big spa and three restaurants. Enough reasons to not have to step out for a couple of days. We could not get through the whole place in our short stay and will go back for more.

Fingerlicking Food

The hotel will open with three restaurants and the Grand Club on day one, with specialists taking over. The Malabar Cafe, their all-day diner, serves up authentic cuisine from the region. Under Chef Latha, who has curated the menu, you will get your fix of honest Mallu food on the plate. She will even guide you on how to eat with your hands if you do not have the confidence. Thai Soul, their Bangkok street style restaurant, has the spiciest red chilli we ever tasted. On the seventh floor, get the best steak in town at the Colony Clubhouse and Grill, where the colonial influences of the region inspire all the food.

Curated Experiences

On visit number 547653 (fictional number), don’t find yourself cubby-holed in another ayurvedic spa. Sign up for the curated experiences that the team has passionately brought together, and experience a different side of Cochin you have not seen before. Ride a tuk-tuk, meet a writer who is the force behind the Kochi Biennale and let him help you experience Fort Kochi. Alternatively, spend half a day in the village, learning how coconuts turn into toddy, and those prawns arrive on your plate. End it with the hospitality of the locals and a lazy boat ride in the backwaters.

Caring Crew

Hotels are just buildings that are made hospitable by their people. Moreover, this one has tonnes of them. From the Chefs who are determined to make your meal an experience, and talk to you about it at length, to the housekeeping staff who will take care of your every request including extra coffee pods, they are all eager to make your visit a memorable one.

The Grand Hyatt Kochi is a destination that is perfect for families and weekend getaways. I am surely headed there again sooner than later for the rains, and maybe you should, too!
