Cashback Cards India: Citibank Cashback Card

One question I keep receiving over and over is my choice of Cashback Cards in India. While I believe more in rewards over Cashback, and can almost always get a better value out of those for premium travel, not everyone starts their credit journey wrapping their head around the concept. For them, Spending to Save is the name of the game.

For them, the real value may be in a Cashback card, where they get a deduction on their bill every month, rather than bothering about transferring rewards. In the category, one of the best cards I’ve come across is the Citibank Cashback Credit Card.

Cashback Cards India Citibank Cashback Card

The Citibank Cash Back Credit card has a really low fee, making it easier for everyone to be able to access the card. At INR 500 per annum fee, this card is surely one to look at for those who are starting out in the world of credit.

The card offers a 5% cashback on many categories, which means a direct payback to your credit statement. These include:

  • 5% Cashback on movie ticket purchases.
  • 5% Cashback on all your telephone bill payments.
  • 5% Cashback on all your utility bill payments made online through Citibank Online Bill Pay.

All other payments get you 0.5% cash back as well. The cashback on telephone and movies is limited to INR 100 per month, as defined by the category codes from Visa or MasterCard. Your cashback automatically can be redeemed as soon as you hit INR 500 as accumulated Cashback. That means, within the first few months, you get your fee returned, and everything else you earn as Cashback later is a bonus. The good part, cashbacks are uncapped.

The card comes with a Paywave by Visa enablement now, which means you get to pay up to INR 2,000 without a PIN on an RFID enabled machine. These days, the card is being issued to those who can show an annual income of INR 4,00,000 (INR 4 Lakhs) and upwards. You can apply via this link directly with Citibank.

Do you use the Citibank Cashback Card? What has been your experience with this or any other cashback cards in the market?

  1. Ajay can you review the premium cards, the ones with annual fee. How does Amex platinum travel card compare with Jet ICICI sapphiro card. Any other cards which offer better value

  2. This was one of the first cards I applied with Citibank until I moved to Prestige and Premiermiles. Neat savings of 700 per annum easily on payment of telephone bills (after deducting the membership fee).

  3. I have applied for this card online but the problem with citibank is they straight away deny the application even when the ITR is high as 8 lacs.

    • Is it so? Card denied is unlikely for such high ITR. You should check your CIBIL score (it’s free). I suppose there may be some outstanding issues, better to check CIBIL and get pending issues resolved. Sooner the better!
