In a low key ceremony, Boeing yesterday handed over the first of Jet Airways 737 MAX aircraft to the airline. Jet Airways will be first Indian carrier to fly the new and improved 737 aircraft, which delivers a double-digit improvement in fuel efficiency and improved passenger comfort. The first aircraft would be registered as VT-JXA. VT-JXB is still to take the first of their test flights, and the third aircraft is still awaiting engines.

This delivery marks the first of 150 737 MAX aircraft that Jet Airways has on order with Boeing, following two separate orders for 75 jets placed in 2015 and earlier this year.

The family of aircraft is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines and includes design updates such as Boeing’s Advanced Technology winglet that will result in less drag and optimise performance, especially on longer-range missions. Together, these improvements reduce fuel use and CO2 emissions by at least 14% compared to today’s Next-Generation 737s – and by 20% more than the single-aisle aircraft they replace.

The ferry flight of the aircraft is supposed to begin at 6 AM Pacific Time and can be tracked as 9W9020 on FlightRadar24.

Once in India, Jet Airways is planning a hanger event, and they’ve already selected five winners in a contest they organised earlier this month to attend this event. The hangar event would be held on June 28, 2018. The aircraft makes its first commercial flight in Jet Airways colours on July 1, 2018.
