Kochi floods shut down airport for 4 days

Kerala’s Kochi airport has suspended all operations through August 18, 2018 (Saturday) 2 pm due to excessive rainfall. The state is receiving so much rain, that apparently they’re having to let go water and they have opened up 33 dams, which is a first in the history of the state. Earlier today, the airport had stopped arrival operations from 4 AM to 7 AM as a precautionary measure after Kochi Floods hit them.

A statement from the Kochi Airport reads:

Kochi Airport operations temporarily suspended till 18th Saturday 2pm since the inflow of water is still on a raising trend. We are working hard to drain out the storm water.

When you head to the Kochi Airport official website, you will meet this note:

As a result of this move, all flights to and fro from the airport have been cancelled. While this means a lot of people will be stuck in Cochin for a while,  unfortunately since there is no runway to operate from.

Airlines are trying their best however to help passengers, and the best place to find updated information with all the airlines would be either their website or their Twitter accounts. Here are the Vistara and Jet Airways stance on this

We will of course try and stay on top of this situation and keep you posted. Best to keep an eye on my Twitter account where I keep putting out such information first.

Here is hoping this is going to be sorted quickly and things are back online at the earliest.
