Last Week At The Lounge: September 15, 2018

Hello everyone from Bengaluru. I’m taking a breather here from work, especially after two back to back weekends of workshops at Mumbai. Now that I’ve had my fill of masala dosas and filter coffee, I can’t wait to get back to Mumbai, which for a change is nice and sunny. While I scour for cheap air tickets online, you can catch up on last week’s action with our weekly roundup.

Announcement for Jet Airways cooperation with KLM/Air France

Jet Airways and Air France/KLM’s partnership has enabled flyers from both sides of the globe to travel seamlessly. Last week, at the IATA Aviation Summit, the President & CEO of KLM, Pieter Elbers mentioned that they are working towards aligning their frequent flyer programs with those of Jet Airways. But what good are elite benefits if you can’t travel due to visa delays in the first place? That may become a thing of the past as countries in the Schengen Zone may soon start issuing priority visas.

Delhi, we’re coming to your town next week! We finally have a date for Points & Pints Delhi NCR. Have you RSVP’d yet? Moving from Ajay’s hometown to my hometown, Hyderabad. Mileage Mentor MasterClass comes to the city of pearls later this month. Book your seats today!

One out of two international flyers from India travels to the Middle East. And IndiGo has quietly been grabbing seat share on these routes. They’re doubling down on existing destinations and are launching new routes. Air India, on the other hand, is focusing on Europe. After launching flights to Stockholm and Copenhagen, they are set to relaunch flights between Mumbai and Frankfurt.

Promotions and Rewards

marriott megabonus promotion

Marriott International, world’s largest hotel chain, now has a single unified loyalty program after the Marriott Rewards-SPG program merger last month. That means they are back to offering the promotions. For the next few months, they’re offering up to 3,000 bonus Marriott Rewards points each time you stay with them for two nights or more. Great opportunity to earn some points. If you’d rather buy point than earn them, Hilton Honors is running a fabulous promotion where you can get 2X the points for the same price.

Deals with Appeal

Last week was a slow one for all the bargain hunters out there. Air Asia concluded its sale where you could book cheap tickets across their international network. What really caught my eye was that you could book flatbeds for the price of an economy seat.
