IHG adds 14 new hotels in India, offering 1000 Bonus points to book

India remains one of the fastest growing markets in the organised hospitality space, and significant global players want a piece of this ever-growing pie. InterContinental Hotel Group(IHG) is one of the largest hotel chains in the world with over 5,000 properties across 100+ countries. They are now on track to adding 14 existing hotels to their stable apart from other IHG upcoming hotels in India.

IHG has partnered with SAMHI, a lodging real estate company which has a portfolio of over 24 properties. Marquee players including Hyatt and Marriott run their hotels. With this new partnership, IHG’s network of Holiday Inn Express hotels goes up by 14 which translates into approximately 2,000 additional rooms across India.

These properties are spread across 11 tier 1 cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The 14 hotels were closed for refurbishments and upgraded to bring them in line with the Holiday Inn Express brand. Apart from these existing hotels, there are another four properties under construction which would be added to IHG’s portfolio when completed.

With this one deal, IHG increases its system size by 34%. Currently, IHG’s pipeline stands at 41 hotels with 90% of the Holiday Inn Express hotels located in tier 1 cities. As the 14 hotels would only need refurbishments, it did not take a lot of time for these hotels to re-open under the Holiday Inn Express banner. Once operational, IHG will be able to boast of a strong network of hotels in major cities in India.

To celebrate the occasion, IHG is giving a 1,000 bonus points when you book through these links at the hotels which are now open, or opening soon:

Just remember to book the rate that states the opening offer, if it works for you.

Bottomline

It is good to see that global brands are ramping up their inventory in India. With more hotels and brands come more choices which ultimately is good for us customers. However, IHG still has a long way to go if it plans to compete against the likes of Taj and Marriott, each with a network of over 100 properties in the country.

Remember, if you don’t have an IHG Rewards Club account, right now is an excellent time to sign up.
