GoAir moving domestic operations to Terminal 1 in Mumbai Airport reshuffle

There has been a lot of merry go around happening in terms of no-frill airlines raiding the good airport terminals in the past few days, since Jet Airways folded up. At Delhi Airport, with expansion in mind, it was announced that IndiGo and SpiceJet will move out from Terminal 2(IndiGo partly albeit), and relocate to Terminal 3. This way, IndiGo would now offer domestic flights from Terminal 1,2,3 at Delhi Airport, and SpiceJet from Terminal 1 and 3.

SpiceJet has announced that they are moving out of the Mumbai Airport Terminal 1, and relocating their entire operations to Mumbai Airport Terminal 2 with effect from October 1, 2019. Till so far, SpiceJet was offering only some of their newer flights launched April 2019 onwards (78 in total) from Terminal 2, and most other flights would operate from Terminal 1.

But with this reshuffle, GoAir is now deciding to head back to Terminal 1. Early on, when GoAir launched new flights to fill in the gap of Jet Airways slots, the series G82000 to G82999 was assigned to fly out of the Terminal 2. Now, it has been decided by GoAir that all the domestic flights will be heading back to Terminal 1. The older terminal should indeed have more capacity once SpiceJet leaves the building.

Per the airline,

This move will immensely benefit GoAir passengers as they will be able to easily demarcate the terminal they need to go to — Terminal 1 for domestic flights, Terminal 2 for international flights. Internally, the shift of domestic flights to Terminal 1 will streamline the departure and arrival process for GoAir and create greater synergies.

Here is a screen grab of all the flights that are moving.

Bottomline

It seems like with these moves, GoAir is getting back into its low-cost shoes. Terminal 1 is a functional experience at best, over Terminal 2’s premium experience.

What do you think of GoAir’s move to consolidate operations at Mumbai Airport Terminal 1?
