Another new Jet Airways convenience fee now in place!

Seems like someone is out to milk its customers. On one hand, Jet Airways offers Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 discounts on its website, asking people to book directly with them, and now, they have sneaked in a new ‘convenience fee’ a la ‘low cost airlines’ to recoup some of the money they let you save on their flights. Take a look at this new convenience surcharge and be aware when you book online on JetAirways.com… here is the first screen when you select your flight and get your fare details in place, no mention of the ‘convenience fee’!!! And now, on screen 2,when it is time to pay up, you will find out that Jet Airways mysteriously adds another…

Why is Jet Airways assigning American Airlines elite levels to its FFs?

Some funny things are happening with the Jet Airways online engine for the past few days, and no one has been able to put a finger on why or what is going wrong. For about 3 weeks or more now, Jet Airways is showing up American Airline status tiers in their PNRs. Look at this ticket I booked a short while ago. A short-hop domestic flight I will take soon, but when you look at the red-circle, you see, for the purpose of this ticket Jet Airways shows my status as (GLD/RBY), which in AA and oneworld parlance should be Gold tier (AAdvantage)/Ruby (oneworld). When I booked the ticket, it showed my correct tier with Jet Airways, and now this.…

Reminder: 5 days for Jet Airways 25% transfer bonus

A few weeks back I had written about the 25% Jet Airways transfer bonus that is valid for your Card reward points, if you transfer and receive the transferred points in your Jet Privilege account by May 31st. This is just a quick reminder that the transfer bonus will go out on the 31st of May and if you want to transfer out your points you should do that now! With a few banks that I have experience with, HDFC Bank will take a few days, ICICI Bank will happen within 48 hours and Citibank will transfer overnight, so will American Express. So go on, pick up the phone and make those requests now if you want to receive the…

Burn Notice: Citibank and Jet Airways – friends turning foes!

I did not intend to put out such an attention-grabbing headline out here, but considering I feel cheated and walked over, I might as well. And that too with brands such as Jet Airways and Citibank which I profess all over the place. I’m glad this happened before I wrote my Sunday Review series on the Jet Airways Citibank Credit Card though. The bad news…something I can claim proudly I was ahead of the curve on. The Jet Airways Citibank Credit Card partnership, which is was about 12 years old, is over. Yesterday, a lot of Jet Airways Citibank Credit Card members received the following email informing them of the move: Dear Card Member, We would like to thank you…

Jet Airways’ new 50 bucks snafu!

Through a friend working for Jet Airways a while back, I had heard the murmurs of Jet Airways planning a new 50 Rs. fee. This time around, for all the (e)ticket printouts, but I laughed it off when I heard of it in March. I thought, a full-service carrier of that stature would not really go to these extents, but they did. Yesterday morning, some flyers were surprised to see a new charge come up ‘with immediate effect’. And later in the day came an email to all JetPrivilege members: Dear Mr. AJ, This is to bring to your notice that effective immediately, requests received for duplicate e-ticket printouts at Airline Ticketing Offices and City Ticketing Offices in India across…

Delta Airlines to discontinue partnership with Jet Airways

And Kingfisher Airlines as well, but that is not so important! Buddies in crime for a while, Delta Airlines is terminating its frequent flyer partnership with Jet Airways from 15th October 2012 as per an announcement put out on the Delta Skymiles website. While Jet and Delta both have had a reputation of their own as good airlines, both have had one big problem area where they could give each other a good fight, the worse redemption capabilities ever. This is where the parallels have been drawn all this while. According to this thread on FT, Delta fired Jet Airways because Jet had even more restrictive rules than them on redeeming rewards. I am sure they could not take that…

Jet Airways is offering a 15% off on business class travel from India to select Middle East and South East Asian markets, for booking your tickets on JetAirways.com and travel commencing by 30th June 2012. The terms and conditions of the sale state that tickets need to be issued on April 25/26 for return travel from India to UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Malaysia. There is also a condition stating, discount applicable on specific flight numbers only, where my guess is that the discounts are valid on all the operations with the Boeing 737 narrowbody planes. Jet Airways had run a similar promo offer in February, however at that point of time they were…

India just shrunk by 25% on the Jet Airways mileage map

I really thought this was a technical glitch but looks like this is not. Like I wrote a few days back, Jet Airways made a few changes to the JetPrivilege program in late March 2012. One of the main changes was the earning rate for domestic flights in India, where Jet Airways upgraded the program to offer 100% mileage credit to all domestic flights in India. Now, I really expected to earn 100% miles when this change happened but I was thoroughly confused over the past few weeks about the real offering here. Everytime I wanted to book a ticket, lets say BOM-DEL, I would be offered a 532 miles for travel, whereas the real distance between the two cities,…
