Citi PremierMiles 50% transfer bonus to Hilton HHonors till December ‘13

Citibank is on a roll with transfer bonuses over the past couple of days it seems. After signing up new transfer partners in IHG Rewards Club, Hilton HHonors, Taj Inner Circle, Malaysia Airlines & Eva Air last month, they are now running a transfer bonus with Singapore Airlines.

And now, they are running another transfer bonus with their new partner Hilton HHonors. This time around, if you transfer 10,000 PremierMiles, which convert into 15,000 Hilton HHonors points (due to the 1PM=1.5 HHonors conversion rate), you get an added bonus of 5,000 HHonors points as well. There are no limits to the amount of PremierMiles you can transfer under this promotion and the amount of extra 5,000 HHonors points you can receive under this promotion.

This is valid for the conversions made in multiple of 10,000 PremierMiles only, so if you transfer 20,000 PremierMiles, you get 40,000 HHonors reward points in your account instead of the usual 30,000. But if you transfer 15,000 PM, you only get 22,500 HHonors Reward points. There is language in the Terms & Conditions, which confuses me as to why the guy with 15,000 transfer won’t get 27,500 HHonors points:

5,000 extra Hilton HHonors Bonus Points will be received for every 10,000 Miles you transfer during the Promotion Period. The extra Hilton HHonors Bonus Points will be received for exact multiples of 10,000 Citi Points (for example you will receive 10,000 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points for every 20,000 Miles you transfer,
15,000 for every 30,000 and so forth).

The base converted miles will post within 2 days into your HHonors account, while the 5,000 extra miles will be credited within 30 working days. The promotion is valid for transfers made till 31 December 2013.

Personally, I think this is an okay promotion and I won’t take part into it. Reason? I am already sitting on a boat load of HHonors points due to my pursuit for Diamond status with them in 2012, and they gutted the program this year in March. Plus, I was not too impressed with their luxury property in India at Hilton Shillim. However, there are specks of hope in some properties. The DoubleTree by Hilton in Goa is one such property, which is extremely good (though small), and only takes 5,000 HHonors points for a night’s stay. So, you should really look out and make a transfer if you have a redemption in mind and you can see the dates available.
