While we have been having a little issue moving people to Delhi Terminal 2 for operational reasons, Singapore has today inaugurated the fourth Terminal at Changi Airport today without a hiccup.

See, Changi is one of the best airports out there, and today, they’ve installed another Terminal which may be of use for some of us while we travel.

The Terminal 4 has opened up today and will be used by Korean Air and Cathay Pacific to start, with other airlines starting operations from there soon as well.Terminal 4 is technically a low-cost terminal and will see operations of Air Asia, Vietnam Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Spring Airlines move here over a week. T4 was built by bringing down the old Budget Terminal at Changi and took about 4 years to build.

Terminal 4 has a self-service process of check-in, bag-drop, departure immigration as well as boarding, which is all automated, making it both seamless and efficient. Here is how everyone flying through T4 gets to use the self-service mechanisms to go through quickly to the gates.

The first arriving and departing flights at T4 were operated by Cathay Pacific – CX659 from Hong Kong arrived at 5.40am and CX650 departed Singapore for Hong Kong at 6.50am.

The terminal is not joined with the other 3 terminals, however, and cannot be accessed via the train link with the other terminals. You need to be using a bus to get here.

The new thing about Terminal 4 will be that it will have centralised security checks unlike the individual security at the gates on other terminals.

 

With T4, Changi Airport will be able to handle up to 16 million passengers a year, increasing its overall annual capacity to 82 million passengers.This will provide the necessary capacity until the next major injection comes in about 10 to 12 years through the opening of Terminal 5 in the late 2020s.
