Iberia strikes back: Is your Iberia Plus account inaccessible?

Last week, there was an opportunity to earn miles, when Iberia announced a 3-day promotion and offered to put 9,000 Avios for every ticket booked during those three days, up to a maximum of ten tickets per Iberia Plus account. The Avios was going to be credited into member accounts within 10 days of booking the tickets.

They further went on to add the confirmation that you did not even need to fly on those tickets,  but just book them. Given Iberia had low prices for intra-Spain tickets which were Euro 18 to 30 in many cases, this looked like a great opportunity for people to earn Avios.

About 8 days after the promotion closed, however, things may be turning out to be different for people. I just got tipped off by a reader about how his Iberia account was inaccessible.

I went on to check on my own account, which did not allow me to log in as well. Even with a forgot password to attempt to reset my password, I did not get access to my account. This is the error I’d run into trying to access my account.

Iberia Plus Error

I also noticed that there is a whole bunch of people on FlyerTalk reporting the same thing. There is no consensus that all of these are accounts that are being shut down, but the common theme seems to be that the accounts which were opened last week are the ones which are not accessible.

While I am not drawing any conclusions out of it, I wouldn’t panic yet and wait for a word from Iberia about the situation.

What do you think is the next step in earning 90,000 Avios with Iberia? Have you been able to access your Iberia Accounts?

  1. Argh… bought my tickets via Iberia UK but just got the below:

    Dear Mr. X:

  2. I keep getting the “ error “ message and am unable to change the pin through any browser. This is the first time this has ever happened to me

  3. Agree. I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Clear cookies and use safari or explorer. This article is misleading.

  4. Don’t use Chrome. Works fine with explorer. Problem is if you try to login multiple times on Chrome with the errors, you will then get locked out.

Sometimes the Spanish site works best for Chrome logins. But if I accidentally use Chrome and it didn’t login (it has worked on a rare occasion) then it just move to IE and it works fine.

  5. Try switching your browser.

My account is inaccessible via Chrome across computers, but does work w/Internet Explorer.

  6. I’ve had an account with them for a year and bought 9 $18 flights. (I thought I bought ten! My mistake) My account is accessible but no points have arrived, despite yesterday being the 10th day.

  7. I also couldn’t access it but changed my PIN and it worked. But I haven’t been involved with the recent offer.

  8. No problem here. Signed in without issue. But I use Iberia Avios a lot, and will be flying TLS-ORD this week using Iberia Avios.
Last Sunday I caved and booked 10 flights @ 34 euro flights for spouse and myself – all emails have our ff# listed.

  9. Iberia is not “striking back”, and your not being shut down. The Iberia website never works well, and it’s especially overwhelmed with people trying to check their balances because of this promotion. You’ll also find out that your password arbitrarily stops working every few months, and you’ll need to request a new one. I’ve been a member for four years – I’ve been getting the “Combination of the number” error message for four years about 1/3 of the time when trying to log in. Their IT is worthless. Go to Chrome Incognito mode – it seems to work better

  10. If you “wouldn’t panic yet”, why the title “Iberia strikes back?” I understand the need for click-bait but c’mon!
